Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is a prevalent and debilitating condition. It can persist for weeks, months, and even years, affecting a person’s quality of life—from their ability to work, move, and sleep, to their overall mental well-being. Frequently, a person’s nervous system can become hypersensitive following an injury or trauma to the body. This results in an amplification of pain caused by muscle tension and fascial restrictions.

At Provectus Physiotherapy & Health Services, our healthcare professionals work to help calm nerve sensitivity and reduce pain signals using all means possible, such as electrical therapy, manual therapy, and therapeutic exercises. Chronic pain is rarely solved by one approach alone. Many of our clients benefit from combining acupuncture for inflammation and kinesiology for long-term movement support. The myofascial system can cause pain in the spine, extremities, and organs. By working to release these restrictions through different techniques, the body can release this tension and decrease overall pain.

Chronic pain can also result as a symptom of fibromyalgia. Fibromyalgia is a chronic syndrome that causes generalized pain, joint rigidity, and intense fatigue. Peer-reviewed journal articles have shown that Myofascial Release not only improves pain and quality of life in fibromyalgia patients, but also enhances their sleep patterns and management of anxiety and depression (Castro-Sánchez et al., 2011).

What is physio pain management, and how can it help chronic pain?

Physio pain management calms sensitive nerves and reduces pain signals while rebuilding safe movement and function. We use evidence-informed approaches such as manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and electrical therapy so you can move more comfortably and return to daily life. This is ideal for anyone seeking physio for chronic pain.

What happens at my first chronic pain physio appointment?

We start with your story, including goals, triggers, and what a good day looks like. Then we complete a gentle movement screen that checks posture, walking, basic strength, and flexibility. You leave with a simple plan that includes graded exercises, flare-up strategies, and clear next steps for in-home or online care.

Do you offer in-home and virtual care across Greater Vancouver?

Yes. We provide in-home and secure online sessions across Greater Vancouver, including Burnaby, Vancouver, Richmond, Coquitlam, and New Westminster, so you can progress without travelling to a clinic.

What physio pain solutions do you use?

Your plan may include manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, and electrical therapy to calm pain and improve function. Many clients benefit from an integrated approach that pairs physiotherapy with acupuncture for inflammation and kinesiology for long-term strength and movement confidence.

What can I do between sessions to improve without overdoing it?

Follow your home program and use pacing. Choose short and frequent practice rather than long sessions. Aim for comfortable effort and avoid sharp pain. Gentle mobility or short walks can help if tolerated. If soreness or swelling lasts into the next day, scale back slightly and tell us so we can adjust the plan. Many clients also add in-home acupuncture between physio sessions to help calm irritation and reduce inflammation so movement work feels easier. Consistency beats intensity.
